After graduating from the Wellington School of Design in the late eighties, figurative artist Crispin Korschen began her career as a free lance illustrator. During the nineties she lived in Kenya, returning to New Zealand and the Kapiti Coast in 2000, and to painting in 2003.
"Painting gives me the opportunity to bring to life the characters and images roaming in my head. The stories told by my art works are either my own, inspired from observations and my experiences, or expressions of my restless curiosity.
Crispin's paintings have a unique quirky quality which people cannot help responding to. Amusing and often powerful metaphors are illustrated by figures in a simplified landscape. This very simplicity, with her use of colour and paint texture, strengthens the emotions and ideas in each art work.
