‘Te Ahi Puhapuha’ means exploding or erupting fires, referring to a 'Volcano'. The 2 manaia figures refer to Kuiwai and Haungaroa who were Ngātoroirangi’s sisters. They sent him 'Fire' from Whakaari to Tongariro/Taupo when he needed to be warmed up, and the hot pools of Tongariro saved him.
