Artist's Bio

Ryan Mitchell is a New Zealand-born, Melbourne-based artist working under the name BLURR. With a Master’s degree in Architecture and a decade of experience in high end residential architecture and interior design, his creative practice is shaped by a sensitivity to colour, composition and atmosphere. Through portraiture, abstraction and expressive mark-making, Ryan explores mental health, identity and the complexities of internal experience. Drawing from personal experiences of anxiety, depression, panic attacks and insomnia, his work translates psychological states into layered, emotionally charged compositions. Working across acrylic paint, pastel, charcoal, he uses art as both a process of understanding and a way to create connection through shared emotional experience.
