Artist's Bio

Destina is a Wellington–based photographic artist inspired by light and colour in and around her home and environment.

Having taught photojournalism for many years, she loves documenting reality, but when it comes to slowing down her world, she enjoys the meditative experience of watching how light plays in and around the home, the garden, and beautiful sunsets that shift and move in colour.

Many of her photographs capture the non-literal view of the world, out-of-focus, diffused or with intentional camera movement, to create atmospheric and luminous abstract landscapes.

She has also used architectural abstracts merged with atmospheric textures to explore the tension between constructed environments and moods of light and space.

She completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Arts, majoring in Photography, later in life, and became a Licentiate Honours member of the Photographic Society of New Zealand.
