Artist's Bio
Born in Glasgow in 1967, Frank Gordon moved to New Zealand in 2000, falling instantly for Dunedin’s harbour and hills. Drawing and painting have been lifelong constants for Gordon, whose style is deeply shaped by an early love for picture books. Today, his art is colourful and highly illustrative, driven by narratives that are read, invented, or discovered during the creative process.
Set within forests, mountains, or gardens, his paintings weave together whimsy, comedy, and drama, populated by the people and creatures of the landscape. Gordon’s influences span from old masters like Bruegel and Bosch to figurative muralists like Diego Rivera and Stanley Spencer. Painting daily, he treats his art as a compulsion—a wonderful, incurable affliction.
