Artist's Bio

Julie Greig is a New Zealand artist working primarily in pastel, known for her quiet, atmospheric depictions of rural life. Based in Otago, her work is deeply informed by the surrounding landscape, where shifting light, seasonal change, and a sense of stillness play central roles. Greig’s paintings often explore moments of pause — a resting horse, a silvery morning, the end of a working day — capturing both the physical presence and emotional resonance of her subjects. With a restrained palette and sensitive handling of light and edge, she seeks to evoke calm, reflection, and connection to place. Her practice is grounded in observation, yet guided by a desire to simplify and distill each scene to its essence.
