Description

'Enua Manea' means beautiful land or  island in Cook Islands Māori. The lime-green colour was inspired by the pastures and trees of the Cook Islands, which are a much lighter green than the vegetation here in Aotearoa, reflecting differences in weather and temperature. The pink and purple represent the beautiful, vibrant flowers of Rarotonga.

The manaia figure at the bottom right represents Paikea, the famed Māori ancestor who is said to have traveled from the Cook Islands to New Zealand on the back of a whale.

The figure at the top right is Uepopo, a renowned warrior chief from Rarotonga.

The figure at the bottom left symbolizes the harakeke (flax) bush, which does not grow in Rarotonga. It also highlights the raranga (weave) and whiri (twirl) patterns, representing the New Zealand Māori connection back to Rarotonga.
